Syringe Pump for the Extrusion Process of Polymeric Microspheres

Matthieu Lemay, Sajid Khanpuri, Khadijah Ahmad, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ottawa

The device shown is a custom-made syringe pump system that will be used in an experimental polymer extrusion process at Dr. Isabelle Catelas' Orthopaedic Bioengineering Laboratory at the University of Ottawa. The syringe pump was designed to integrate all the elements required for the extrusion process into one cohesive and easy-to-use system. Its purpose is to provide a reliable platform for the production of polymeric microspheres capable of consistent and reproducible results. The pump can extrude polymer at a rate between 0.14 μL/min and 493 μL/min, which is configured using a graphical user interface from a computer.
